We spent the last days in the north Oscar drainage. We witnessed a natural avy cycle with generalized propagation on most convex roll (mostly 30cm to 40cm deep) or steep features up to size 2.5 with much larger avalanches roaring in the distance and above treeline. A major wind event prior to our arrival took down many big old trees, creating some new hazards in several runs. Ski quality was incredible with 60cm of dry powder available with a good refresh for every lap (and uptracks…)! A major warm up and rain event followed on the 29th shaking off all the snow from the big trees and transforming the snowpack into a thick layer of water-satured snow.
