3 days ski touring around Castle area 25th, 27th, 28th on SE through NE aspects below 1900m. Christmas day yielded up to 90cm of the highest quality lowest density snorkel worthy snow and it was sluffing far and fast on slopes as low angle as 30 degrees. Surface soft slabs began to develop on boxing day onwards, increasing propagation potential (where on Dec. crust) whilst decreasing dry loose snow sluffs. The most protected snow we found by the 28th was on a NE aspect below 1900m. No natural slab avalanches larger than size 1 mid storm surface slabs were observed. Lots of snow available for transport, assess sudden changes in snowpack for the locality you are in. Don't be blinded by the yellow light! It is tough to get much speed for any sort of slope cutting or exit strategy. Ginger and cinnamon in the tea will help your circulation in the cold, cayenne if you're feeling spicy. A solid team of leap frogs helps with the low angle trenching.
