December 13 observations from Grassy Mt. 120 cm snowpack at top of Grassy Mt. 115 cm snow depth at around 1950 m. Dug snow pit and found solid ice crusts down 5 cm and another down 20 cm. Four finger snow down to about 65 cm following ice crusts. Compression test failure on suspected surface hoar layer (Nov 30?) down 65 cm on 1st shoulder tap. Same with extended column test (sudden collapse and propogation on first tap from shoulder). Ok turns considering the conditions as the crust was supportive. Note on getting to Grassy - road not plowed, creeks still open but navigable on skins.
