We headed out to the Blackcomb backcountry to check out the conditions after the relentless rain, and was pleasantly surprised to be greeted with a bluebird powder day above 1700m. We toured up to the bench under DoA and skied both the south and the west face before exiting via the resort. Our main concerns for the day were windslabs, and how well the new snow bonded to the rain crust. We stayed away from north aspects due to wind. The new snow seemed to be adhering well, and settled right side up. Digging a pit at 2200m on a south aspect showed around 20cm of powder on top of 30+cm of saturated rounds. We observed no natural avalanches, but did note some thin windslabs on north aspects.
