Weather

Snowing with a light westerly wind. Breezier on the pass itself. Warm.

Snowpack

The snowpack was deeper and more solid than anticipated at this location. HS 120 cm. Only 3 layers- 15 cms of new snow on top of a 90 cm thick slab of tiny rounds, with 15 cm of 1F hard rounding facets at the ground. The slab increased in hardness with depth, from 4F at the upper interface to P at the lower one. No results with snowpack tests. Despite the strong snowpack, snow changing to rain tonight is a serious concern. There will be plenty of fresh new snow to slide by morning. Paths are quite full, and snow partly covers most of the cliffs on the road cuts, giving small slides a clean shot at the road.
