Avalanche
On 2/7/2016 visitors reported remotely triggering an avalanche on the trail between Calypso Cascades and Finch Lake trail. The visitors stated they observed shooting cracks and then saw an avalanche release in front of and above them. Rangers investigated the avalanche on 2/8/2016 and found a HS-ASr-R3-D2-S/I avalanche on a 39 degree slope at 9400 feet on a N aspect in a drainage. The crown and flanks had drifted in somewhat but appeared to average 18-22 inches. The avalanche was around 30-40 feet wide and ran approximately 600-700 feet. The path was being crossloaded by WNW winds. In some thinner areas, the avalanche had stepped down to weak snow near the ground. Photos and pit profile attached. The avalanche did cross the established trail.
