At the Independence SNOTEL site the HS has decreased to 8" with a SWE of 2.9" as of 1300hrs. The snowpack is less than 20% of average for this date. The lack of snowpack is near a historic low; reference this date in 1977. There is no avalanche hazard to the highway on either side of the Pass.
