Lingering snowfall yesterday afternoon and early this morning added another 5” to our study plots on RMP and in the Gorge. Following are Totals for the latest storm. HN24/water equiv Storm total Monument 5”/.35” 12”/.95” Red Mtn Pass 5”/.45” 15”/1/45” Molas 1”/.1” 7”/.7” Coal Bank 1”/.1” 10”/.7” For Backcountry: Skies area mostly sunny on this 1st day of spring, but strong north winds and cold temps feel very much like a mid-winter day. Northerly winds have been increasing and are efficiently moving available snow from north to south and likely cross-loading some easterly and westerly aspects near and above treeline. We can expect new slab development on just about all exposed aspects. So far, have not observed any new natural avalanche activity, but one skier reports some shooting cracks in treed glades on north-east aspects.
