Snowpack

While driving up Loveland Pass from I-70 side, observed a slide on east facing aspect of far north side of Loveland Pass Ridge. Stopped and talked to 3 snowboarders, who were waiting for two more in their party. They triggered the slide, but no one was caught. They described it as soft slab that failed into facets. They had difficulties traveling in lower angle terrain below treeline in fully faceted snowpack. Observed cornice buildup above Pass Lake. Really first cornices observed locally this season. P.S. At 6:30 pm, light rain and 40F in Silverthorne at I-70 interchange.
