Weather

Very light snowfall all day (S-1). We observed strong ridgeline wind speeds from the W to NW, with periods of intense snow transport. Temps hovered near -10 at 12,000ft. and near 0 at 10,000ft. Skies were overcast/obscured all day.

Snowpack

Storm total at 18” (1.30” SWE). 2" last night and 2" today. Storm snow stiffened up due to winds and/or settlement, but was unreactive to ski cuts today on W aspects. Significant loading onto E/SE aspects with a new 2-3’ cornice formed since yesterday. We avoided skiing steep slopes on these aspects.

Avalanche

Triggered one slow moving slab 8-10” deep, 25’ wide on a south aspect near treeline, failed on or above the Jan 4th crust. No other signs of instability.
