Crowfoot (lower moraines)

CanRock Mountain Guides were teaching an AST1 course today at Crowfoot moraines. After our companion rescue practice, we were approaching the terrain we wanted to travel through and observed a solid size 2 wind slab release from a steep unsupported slope (in skiable terrain) on the NE flanks of Mt Crowfoot. It was impressive and a huge powder cloud component to it. We stopped soon after and dug a quick pit and pulled a few shears. We got a RP moderate compression test in the top 45-50cm and then a SC hard compression at basal layers. Snowpack depth was 95 cm. Watched 3-4 sliders ride a pretty steep moraine feature a ways above us. Terrain there was estimated 35 degrees plus. No avalanches were triggered.
