Quick report
A couple of us were up at the Joe L'Orsa Cabin yesterday in Babine Mountains Provincial Park. We dug a quick pit in a sheltered and level spot near the cabin at 15:00hrs. Here's a few observations of the snowpack in that location. HS: 65cm 'General' profile picture from the ground up: 0cm-15cm: 3mm(+) facets trending towards depth hoar 15cm-16cm: crust (melt/freeze?) 16cm -32cm: 1.5mm facets 32cm: well preserved surface hoar layer (avg 5mm) 32cm-60cm: old storm snow 60cm-65cm: new snow Result summary from three quick compression tests: CTE (3/5) down 15cm in old storm snow CTM (15/16/22) down 33cm on surface hoar layer CTH (22) down 49cm on top of crust CTM (12/18) down 50 below crust We did not venture above the cabin. Alpine looked pretty wind scoured which is typical for this time of the year.
