Some good visibility today at Hankin allowed me to see some recent avalanche activity. There are several rounds of activity. 1. There was an active Loose Dry cycle in the Past 12 hrs involving yesterdays new snow, more fell then forecast, with 15-20cm at treeline elevations. These occurred in predictable fairly steep Alpine and Treeline terrain, regardless of aspect, and where generally size 1-1.5, with a couple size 2 deposits. These were observed in Cabin Bowl & Morning Bowl, and I suspect are widespread in other areas. 2. There was a slab avalanche cycle that occurred earlier in the week, in the warmer part of the storm, I suspect Monday. The most noteable was a size 2.5 in Cabin Bowl. The fracture line is obvious in the photo, but less obious is the flanks and crown continue close into the lower part of the Hut Chutes. Estimating 250-300m wide, and depth appeared to be in the 1M plus range. That and the wide propagation I suspect this was on the Persistent Weak Layer from Feb 7 involving the facets and crust. Debris into top Runout, and although it was almost buried by newer snow, appeared to be moist.
