We observed an old thick slab avalanche on Sunday. The avalanche appeared to be natural and likely occurred during the mid-January rain to high elevations. The crown and bed surface appeared to be covered by the latest snow at high elevations which has been redistributed by wind. The crown of the slab avalanche was thick (estimated to be 1-2 metres), and could have released on the early December crust/facet layer. This avalanche initiated on an isolated terrain feature and convex slope.
