AST 2 - test pit on a south asp @ 2050 m at treeline with a snowpack depth of 190cm. 3 - 5 cms of new snow fell with little wind and overlies 2-5mm surface hoar. Previous layers of buried surface hoar were found down 20 cms and 45 cms. The Dec 09 curst layer was found down 125 cms and appears to be breaking down and bonding to the snow above it, facceted below. A few compression tests resulted in resistant planar fractures in the M category (14 hits) down 20cm on very small and beat up surface hoar (1-2mm). No other results found.
