We heard whumpfing along the skin track the entire day and decided to be very careful and avoid open slopes. We decided to check out a small slope directly adjacent to a band of trees (we thought it would be protected from wind deposit from south winds). One skier descended onto the top of the slope to inspect snowpack. Whumph was heard / felt by that skier plus another still at the top of the ridge. Snowpack was storm / wind deposit on top of firm layer on top of loose snow. The firm layer was sliding on soft snow beneath. We left the slope and continued along the ridgeline. From a different angle we saw that the skier had remote-triggered the avalanche on the original slope and we noticed a long shooting crack extending 20+ metres away from the crown.
