Skinned up to the west ridge of Mt. MacDonell. Flagged and dug out a river crossing just upstream of the gravel pit, ice was pretty solid there. Temps were -12 @ 5 mile creek and blue skies all day, winds were light to moderate throughout the day. Significant and widespread wind effect on all aspects. Observed some isolated pockets of hollow wind slab on the lower slopes of the glacier. Evidence of several small natural avalanches on very steep, cross loaded chutes. Upper glacier area was very interesting with many large crevasses and some very interesting ice caves. Skiing conditions were surprisingly decent considering all the wind effect. Views to the west of Jarvis glacier area were stunning.
