Snowpack

At 12,200 feet on easterly-facing slopes, the snowpack is generally between 200-250 cms deep. A supportable crust is topped with about 5 cms of recent snow with an immature crust at the surface. The April 16 storm has settled to 25 cm and rests on a 15-20 cm thick, stout melt-freeze crust / ice lens complex at 40 cm below the surface. The mid-pack consists of nearly a meter of pencil hard snow with a thin ice layer at 139 cm from the ground. The relatively dense upper and mid-pack rest on 80 cms of moist, rounding, less resistant depth hoar. Surface snow was moist by 1100 at 12000'
