Snowpack

I have observed cracking within the new snow in isolated loaded areas (pillows) near the ridgetop on the east aspect. On the north aspect, the snowpack was Faceted grains under the new snow. This faceted snow was mostly 1F hard layers with a couple of softer 4F- hard layers. Overall, it seems like the harder layers lack the ability to transfer a skier load deeper into the snowpack and cause an ECTP once the weak layer eventually fails. The harder laters crumbled under my shovel in my pit instead of transmitting the load to the deeper, weaker layers. See Snowpit for more details.
