A welcomed wintery day. Intermittent snow showers accompanied by moderate southwest winds. Temperatures in the high teens and low 20's.
Snowpack
Around a foot of new snow had fallen by noon near the top of Red Mountain Pass and snow showers continued throughout the day. Drifts of new snow up to 2 feet deep were observed. Though it was difficult to see wind moving snow at upper elevations the depth of the drifts and views of bare rock on westerly slopes in the alpine was a good indicator snow was actively transporting. The new snow fell on a variety of old surfaces but seemed to have bonded well on many below treeline slopes. A slight storm instability was observed in the new snow that wasn't a hazard today, but a good thing to keep in mind during this period of incremental loading. No Cracking or collapsing observed.
