Conditions varied dramatically today based on elevation with rain up to 1400m, freezing rain between 1400-1600m, and quality skiing between 1600-1900m with touchy wind slabs easily triggered on steeper lee slopes or convex wind-loaded features.

Weather

Moderate W winds and S1 precip between 1600-1900m. Precipitation transitioned to freezing rain between 1600-1400m. Below 1400m, it was raining and the top 30-40cm of snowpack was very wet.

Avalanche

We triggered very touchy, shallow wind slabs with high propagation potential on S facing slopes near tree line between 1600m-1900m on small convexities or steeper lee features (>35 degrees). We stomped on and intentionally triggered between 6-10 wind-loaded pockets. We avoided these steep slopes and wind-loaded terrain features that could produce >D1.
