Gunnison

The lower elevation parts of the Gunnison Basin have lost most of their snowpack this week. Tomichi Creek has flooded the valley east of Gunnison, and broken the snow dams in the upper reaches above Sargents, towards Whitepine. The snowpack below about 10,000' in the central, south, and east part of the zone is wet throughout, lacking strength, where the snowpack still exists. Below about 8,500', the snowpack is mostly gone.
Lower Taylor Canyon has melted out, holding only patchy snow on the shady side. Upper Taylor Canyon still holds a thin snowpack 2 to 3 feet deep, with drainage to the ground.
Taylor Park still has continuous snow cover, but the rising creeks shows the melt is well-underway.
