While not as hot as our field days last week there was some sun today and temperatures remained below zero. With a high cloud, we were expecting the surface snow to become moist but it remained dry throughout the day. Today we chose a trip that avoided travel below south-facing slopes that could warm up during the day and release. We saw no new avalanches but did observe a larger slab avalanche that occurred recently likely with last week's warming. We dug a few profiles today to get a better idea of how these mild temperatures are impacting the persistent weak layers in the upper snowpack. We had resistant results with an ECTX and CTM (20) RP down 30 on size 2 facets. We did a PST on the FC down 50 cm with no result.
