Went for a bushwack yesterday looking for some turns. Did not gain much elevation but thought some info is better than none. 13:00 - ~1550 m elevation - northeast aspect 125 cm snowpack. 30-35' old slide path (10ft. from tree well). 2 obvious thick hard crusts. 2 cm thick upper crust (25 cm depth) and 3 cm thick lower crust (35 cm depth). Both are knife hard ice separated by consolidated fist hard snow. Lower snowpack 4f to fist hard and consolidated. Base unconsolidated facets (unsure of relationship to proximal tree). Above top crust is soft purcell powder. CT(M) - 15 - 40 cm depth sudden planar (block remained in place) CT(H) - 25 - 75 cm sudden planar (interface not obvious to author on initial investigation; completely slid off column) Note: snowpack in dense forest consists of extremely hard snow to ice. Kicking steps through forest made for interesting approach. Skins pretty much useless on ascent unless skinning through open glads where unconsolidated power (4 cm to 25 cm) sits atop hard crust.
