Snowpack

On a southeast asepct above treeline and just below ridgetop we found drifted snow up to a meter deep. Depth quickly decreased as you moved down slope, with rock and grass visibble through the snow on much of the slope. A snowpit revealed a 55cm deep snopwack consisting of about 10cm of new snow sitting on a pencil hard slab. This sits on top of less than 10cm of small facets at the ground. This facet layer was discontinuous in our pit--in some places the slab sat directly on the ground. We saw ECTN results about 35cm up from the ground.
