Below 11,000 feet a 10cm refrozen crust sits above moist grains and under 4-5 inches of new snow. Minor cracking and collapsing was observed at these lower elevations related to the crust failing on moist grains. Cracking was local to ski pressure. By 10:30 am at around 12,000 feet, about 12 inches of snow had accumulated. You can still feel the old surface beneath the new snow, but moderate settlement of snow from 4/18 has cushioned the transition. No loose activity was observed on the slick crust, even on steeper 38 degree features. The minor settlement of higher density snow from 4/18 may limit the Dry Loose activity on north slopes or at least push that activity to steeper above treeline terrain. Very minor drifting was observed near treeline.
