Log Cabin

Significant SW winds were experienced today in the pass. My group estimated 60 km/hr at TL. We skied from 900 -1200 m on the NE side of Log Cabin, where the gullies are. Opted for a few laps and in between laps the wind transport was filling in our tracks. Snow was becoming more and more wind affected as the day went on. Below tree line, the previous days warming had created a temperature crust at or near the surface. At treeline, we saw wind affected (turning into a slab) snow. No shooting cracks, but we saw blocking in between skis. In some areas this snow was deposited on an older, harder layer that was slippery to skin across. Overall, with the very strong winds and evidence of strong wind transport we chose to not expose ourselves to overhead alpine terrain and kept to planar, lower angled slopes for skiing. 4 short laps and overall the skiing was okay, we had some soft turns and some punchy turns due to the building slab. Snow remained dry all day, no evidence of solar affect in this area.
