Today I completed teaching a motorized avalanche skills training level 1. The class dug 5 snow study pits on an east facing aspect just off of a wind affected ridge top at 2240M with an HS of 140cm. Each pit (5) produced easy to moderate resistant planar results on the storm slab interface down 37cm. We also had quantified hard resistant planar results on the Dec 14 faceting interface down 50cm. We had one hard resistant planar result on the Dec 6 Melt Freeze Crust down 72cm. There was a small surface wind slab of about 5CM that was most reactive to snowmobile skis cutting through the snow off of small convex rolls.
