Snow was beautiful - low density and DEEP. Skiing below 1400 is still survival skiing with alder and fallen trees etc. Very few groups up today.

Snowpack

Dug down about 130cm. The new storm snow was fist density for 40 cm, then 40 cm of finger density, then a thick crust at 80cm down and another crust at 100cm with a several centimeters of sugary facets below. Compression test caused planar failure 40 cm down after 1 moderate tap, and 80 centimeters down failed after 1 hard. The weak layer at 40 cm down didn’t have noticeable hoar, it just appeared that the new snow hadn’t bonded yet. The failure at 80cm down was on a very smooth crust. Neither propagated across an ECT.
