Decided to try some tree skiing with the elevated avalanche conditions. Some whumping was noted in wide open flat spaces but not in the forest or on slopes. No shooting cracks were seen. Dug a snow pit and did a column test in a north east aspect glade at about 1840m elevation. Snow depth was 185cm with 35cm of fresh snow. The column let go at 6 strikes from the elbow along the hoar frost layer at 135cm. Based on this I stayed to trees and avoided large open spaces and very steep slopes.
