We were surprised to find dry snow conditions in Window Bowl today, especially with the +6 °C temperature at Atlas. Strong SW winds kept treeline and alpine a bit cooler, and it was even snowing slightly. As we climbed the treed NE facing ridge, we started to feel a dense layer. On investigation, we found a wind slab over some older soft snow, which was stubborn and unreactive. We decided to avoid the convexity at the top of this slope and entered further down the ridge to avoid it. There was only 50 to 70 cm of snow. The skiing was meh, but not terrible. Road access was better than expected. No dirt and the trail into window is covered.
