We were traveling west to east trying to stay on the north side of a ridge to get to where we wanted to ski. We had to cross a drainage which put us on a more south facing aspect that was open and had seen sun and wind. The slope was 20-25 degrees and as we traveled across it we had 2 sizable settles or "whoompfs" and then another smaller whoompf. We were lucky it did not slide. We were in a terrain trap with convexities above and below us. If had we caused the settling at the convexities we likely would have gone for a ride.
