Snowpack

Toured up Washington gulch and skied a north aspect of Coney’s, light snow falling for most of the morning, winds were around 15-20 mph with gusts over 25 mph and slightly stronger on the ridge line. Wind affect was obvious with highly textured snow and cornice formation. Around 6-8 inches of new snow had fallen on a slick crust that likely formed as a freeze thaw layer over the past week, this created sluffs very easily but didn’t run very far. The older snow below the crust seemed strong and well bonded. Skiing was variable with hard crust and good powder. Avoided crossloaded slopes due to potential wind loading and had no signs of significant instability.
