We went out for a mellow walk in Fish Bowl today. There was lots of previous avalanche activity to look at. Multiple debris piles in the bottom of Fish Bowl to size 2-2.5 from Ridge 2000 appearing to be a range of 3+ days old to within the previous 24 hours. There also appeared to be large cornice chunks that had fallen and were laying just below the head wall. Winds were variable throughout the day, prominently NW in the morning but changing to SW by late afternoon. It was lightly snowing mostly in the form of graupel, which had accumulated up to 5cms in spots. The graupel made the ski quality feel improved and was also running as low hazard loose dry in steeper spots. We spotted a size 1.5-2 natural avalanche that looked to be on the Jan 25 persistent layer. It was on a steep TL/BTL feature on a NE aspect around 1500 m (pictured). A quick dig on a similar aspect on Ridge 2000 revealed to Jan 25 crust to be down 70 cms, but stubborn to test results. There was facets above the crust here but no surface hoar.
