A beautiful early March day. Temperatures in the low thirties, sunny skies, and light winds

Snowpack

Crusts are developing on all aspects below treeline. On southerlies, moist snow was noted 60-70 cm below the surface in a 100cm snowpack. Northerlies are almost completely faceted and unsupportive. I would expect any avalanche that releases will gouge into the basal depth hoar

Several recent Windslab avalanches were observed on northeast-facing slopes above treeline near Crystal and Red Mountains above Lake City
