Sunny, no wind. 27 degrees. E NE aspect. 11400 feet.
Snowpack
Consolidated and stable storm snow with no collapsing from the road up to the edge of tree line. Above tree line there was obvious loading and ripples indicating wind effect.
Avalanche
Just as we began to leave tree line above the ski line typically referred to as “ the bowling alley” we encountered wind effected snow on E/NE with very large collapsing/whumphing/shooting cracks. Everything below tree line was stable but we encountered these conditions almost immediately upon leaving the trees.
