Snowpack
I dug two quick snow pits. At 10,600' on a west-facing slope, where the snowpack has remained more shallow, I found large melt-freeze grains at the bottom of the snowpack that have begun to facet. I also found several crust/facet combinations in this pit that are worth keeping an eye on should we get a significant load in the future. Four hundred feet higher at 11,000' on a north-facing slope, I did not find this same layer at the bottom. Instead I observed small moist grains that barely showed signs of faceting. In either pit, I did not find a slab over weak layer structure. I performed an extended column test with no results.
