Weather
Mix of sun, clouds, and snow showers. Winds were moderate out of southwest but drifting was limited due to cooler temps and a very firm old snow surface. No accumulation noted throughout the day with only an inch or two of snow drifted onto leeward slopes.
Snowpack
Recent loose wet activity in the southern portion of the La Plata's seems similar to other parts of the South San Juan zone. Lots of rollerballs and small loose wet slides up to size 1.5. Cold overnight temps and snowy weather today kept the snow surface frozen and limited loose wet activity. All aspects below 10,000 feet had signs of loose wet activity with a breakable surface crust even on northerlies. Moist snow continues to make it's transition downward in the snowpack and mostly confined to below treeline elevations. At upper elevations, snowpack in general remains dry. Near 11,000 feet and above loose wet activity confined to east to south through west-facing slopes - isolated and small. Northwest to north through northeast-facing slopes still holding soft snow. Huge cornices are found along all ridge lines and could become a hazard in themselves during a more extended warming period.
