35 or so degrees with good cloud cover turning to snow turning to bluebird within the 2 or 3 hours I was there.
Snowpack
Both pits were at around 11,500 feet On a Due North facing slope there was still dry, soft snow and a total depth of 150 cms. The main concern there was a crust/facet combo that was about 30cms deep. It took 6 taps from the wrist in a compression test. The rest of the pit was a slab of facets on top of very well developed depth hoar. On a west facing slope. There was a 2.5 cm thick melt freeze crust on top of about 10 cms of snow at the top. That was resting on an ice/water pooling layer about the thickness of a quarter with what looked like tubes/ icicles going from that layer to the ground. 15 cms below that is a dirty crust facet layer then a slab of facets on top of depth hoar.
Avalanche
Saw several old loose wet avalanches. Seemed to be on south aspects.
