Thin, high clouds this morning gave way to thicker, mid-level clouds as the day progressed. The high temperature at the CAIC Berthoud Pass station was 42f, and it's been over 24hrs since the temperature has dropped below freezing at this station. Winds were 10-15 mph gusting to the 20s and 30s out of the west.
Snowpack
I travelled on south to east to north aspects below and near treeline today, as well as east aspects above treeline. Snow surfaces were at least moist, if not wet, everywhere I travelled today, including on east aspects all the way up to the divide. When returning to the trailhead at the end of the day, the snow in the valley bottom was saturated and cohesionless, though it still remained supportable to skis. I tried pushing snow around on any steeper features I could find today, and couldn’t get anything to move. Details from specific locations are given below.
Avalanche
I did not observe any fresh avalanche activity around Berthoud Pass today.
