Snowpack
We found moist to wet surfaces at all elevations on southerly aspects by the afternoon. Only minor rollerballs were observed off of rocks at upper elevations as cold temps and light winds keep surfaces cooler. Snow above treeline was mostly dense powder due to wind affect on northerlies and ski penetration was about 20cm deep. On northerly slopes hard slab (brown tint) was under the most recent snow 25 to 35cm down and pencil hard. This brown wind slab from last weeks south west winds was 20 to 25 cm thick and supportable to boot penetration in most areas above treeline. We dug a pit at 12,200' on a north aspect and for reasons unknown the dust was not present in the upper snow pack. No propagating results in and extended column test and mod to hard compression test results in the upper 25cm of the profile.
