Temperatures quickly climbed above freezing below 11,000 feet. The sun was beaming under clear skies. Beautiful warm spring day.
Snowpack
Today, I went into the Brooklyns to look at the remaining patches of snow for wet avalanche potential. What I found was that many of the major start zones have little snow left in them. The snowpack further down slope in the tracks ranged from 30-80 cm's. The pack was thinner as I climbed toward the rocky start-zones and deepest at lower angles. The surface was firmer where the snowpack was thinnest. Digging on a west facing slope at ~10,500' it was easy to see the water had made it to the ground. A 20 CM crust was on the surface after decent overnight freeze but it sat above a wet saturated grains. My conclusion is that there is little wet avalanche hazard left in the Brooklyns only because there is so little snow left to avalanche, specifically in the start zones. The eagle group looks thin and melting quickly as well.
