Took advantage of good conditions to explore Hector South's "Peak Bowl" area. Of note: 15 - 30 cm of largely un-wind affected loose dry snow overlies old Dec. 7 surface. This presents as a thin (~<1 1cm) sun and/or melt-freeze crust at least to 2600m. While little wind effect was present on the new snow, this area saw of transport a lot prior to the crust with big variations in depth. One constant is how weak/facetted the snow below the Dec 7 interface. Quick takeaway: nice skiing for now, but there is a generally thin and ubiquitously weak snowpack in this area. It won't take much to rip all of this out.
