Our crew of three splitboarders bushwacked our way up the east-facing side of Log Cabin on Saturday and climbed right to the top. We got some great turns in, and it was an awesome day. There was anywhere from 5 inches to 1 foot of good snow sitting on top of a hard wind slab in most areas, though there was much more snow once you got into the trees. Some areas were scoured down to the hard surface, which made traversing hard, but I would say travel was only moderately difficult. There was quite a bit of soft snow in the trees, but it's sitting on a terrible base, so there is a lots of willow density and it can be hard to get back up if you fall. We weren't falling though, so it was super sweet. I don't know what it is like to ski through willows, but we could plow right through/over them without difficulty on snowboard. We had no problem running from the top right to the road. We experienced some minor whumphing, but witnessed no visible signs of recent avalanche activity (doesn't mean there were none, but we didn't see any). Good times.
