Checked out the Mt Decoeli hike area doing some recon. Super low visibility in the alpine (being inside a ping-pong ball). Powder in the dense trees. Wind effected in alpine. Mixed conditions in between. At 1330 meters the pit showed a ~40cm base of sugary crystals (facets?), then a hard layer about ~30cm thick, then a few wind effected thinner slabs on top. Column test results: 12th strike —> fractures at 10cm depth 15th strike —> fractures at 15 cm depth 22nd strike —> more fractured near top and sliding of hard layer on sugary base layer. Pit dug on low angle north-east-facing slope.
