Temps were between -10°F to +10°F. Skies were clear. North wind was observed at ridgeline transporting snow. Wind was calm at and below tree line. No precip. Traveled on NE, E & SE aspects below tree line with no signs of instability
Snowpack
On an east aspect below tree line in a wind loaded location, we observed a broken and resistant shear quality between the old and new snow interface while performing a 'hand shear' test. The total snow depth was 280 cm and the new/old snow interface was ~70cm from the surface.
