Warm lightly snowing in the morning by the end of the tour steady snow. Gusty winds at the ridge top
Snowpack
We dug at 11,700’ on a north aspect. Total height of snow was 150 cm. The new snow is fist hard quickly going to 4 finger and one finger hardness as you went deeper in the snow pack. 150 cm to 130 cm is the most recent snow from today and Wednesday snow. 130cm down to 60 cm is the Christmas new year’s storm this is 1 finger hardness with no other layers within. From 60cm to 40 cm is the December 10th storm still at 1 finger hardness but more faceted crystals starting to round. The bottom 40 cm is 2-4 mm depth hoar, 1 finger hardness, and the layer of concern. Our ECT test failed on 29 taps 20 cm from the ground with a clean propagation. A saw test had a result of 50/100. CT test failed on 31 taps once again 20 cm from the ground. The new snow from today was sluffy as we skied out.
