Snowpack

Quick obs from Ashman, Saturday dec 21. Below tree line on a south aspect, open meadow @ 1065m = 50cm snowdepth. Very minimal coverage under the canopy (10-30cm). Facet factory. Below tree line, south aspect, open meadow @ 1360m = 90cm. 30cm down, surface hoar well preserved but starting to lay down (3-5mm). Well consolidated throughout; “rightside up”. Treeline, north aspect, sheltered @ 1450m = 135cm. Fist (0-25cm); 4finger 25-50cm; 1 finger to bottom. Bottom 50cm noticed old facets that have become well rounded and consolidated. New snow near ridge top shows varying densities from wind effect. 15-25cm HN. Did not see surface hoar on quick northerly pit; gave caution to any soft slabs on both aspects considering the surface hoar. Some sloughing on steeper slopes east faces from recent wind event / minor cornice fall. Great skiing!
