Respect your alders

The alpine at Hankin offers a great view into the avalanche hazard. We observed a couple small size 1 avalanches out of steep alpine terrain and a couple of piles of older size 2 avalanche debris, which probably slid mid storm. In compression tests a layer down 25cm failed easily in a storm snow interphase and a layer down 50cm failed in moderate taps on decomposing forms and facets over a firm drought layer.
