We were out doing an AST 1 Field Day in the Prairie Backcountry. There were light northwest winds, temperatures were around +4C at 1650 m, and there was high cloud in the morning that dispersed in the afternoon. Our field site was on a low angle southerly aspect. Surface snow stayed cool. There was a thin, breakable melt-freeze crust that persisted through the day. We dug a profile at 1650 m on a south aspect. We had no results in CTs, found a rounding facet layer 100cm down with an HS of 140. The snowpack is generally well consolidated with most snow being some variation of 1F, as side from the breakable crust on the surface. Super nice day for a sunny AST 1 Field Day! ~Cold Smoke Backcountry Guides~
